Description
As I lay in bed deep breathing myself into an expanded and elated state of awareness, I said a prayer of gratitude and asked to see, in my dreams that night, the spirit that was most helping me in my life. I began feeling an undulation all through my body that grew stronger and made it seem that I was a wave. At some point I drifted off into dream-time and my next awareness was of floating downward in a cold, dark, blue-green ocean. I knew I was dreaming. As I descended the depths, it got colder and darker and a fear bubbled up in my mind that there might be sharks around. But I surrendered the thought and continued into the dark unknown until the bottom came into view. With it, I saw the figure of a beautiful, glowing woman amongst the vast deep green kelp fields. Her radiance illuminated the ocean bed and revealed that the kelp and flowers were growing from her. She seemed to be the mother of life itself as her love flowed through me, washing away any and all fear.
Years later, I isolated myself in a, "Who am I again?" cave, stuck in the fear of not knowing who I was going to be after all the shifting I was going through subsides. As I lay in bed one night, I said a tearful prayer and asked for help in finding strength, courage and guidance. Once again, in my dream-time, I was awakened as I floated downward into the familiar vast green-blue waters of the night ocean. With no fear this time, I slowly drifted to the bottom. Then, from a knowing place I shot like a racing arrow up through the water, air and into the sun. I stopped at the back side of the sun and had to pry it open like an eyelid. As I saw into this other realm, I “knew” that I shouldn’t go any further or I would run the risk of getting lost so I cried out from my sun perch for help. As I did, I could see beings carrying out their “jobs” in a landscape that needed no outward source of light to see from because they and everything there was lit from within.
From the inspiration of that dream, I began working on two paintings. One was an expression of the dream, “Journey Through the Sun”, and the other was of the woman of the ocean and my new beginnings, “Ocean Birth”. I began both without knowing what they would be in the end. It was if my prayers from that night were answered through the process of expressing the dreams. While I was painting the ladder, I became elated and tears of joy flowed down my face like a spiritual waterfall making its way to my heart to bring new life.
